Since 1940, the SISTEMA FEDECRÉDITO has been fostering the creativity and talent of thousands of Salvadorans, who needed a financial institution that believed in the progress of their dreams and projects.

The motivation and efforts of a group of visionary Salvadorans led them to found, on October 20, 1940, the first Caja de Crédito in the city of Izalco, Sonsonate department. This provided credit to agricultural producers and merchants, who were not eligible for credit from commercial banks. The positive reception of the first credit union provided sufficient impetus to continue creating them in different cities across El Salvador.

Subsequently, in 1943, the Rural Credit Law was enacted, establishing the organization and development of a Credit Union System, which by that date already had 15 cooperatives in the same number of cities. This law served as the legal framework for the creation of their central cooperative: the Federación de Cajas de Crédito.

More than seven decades of work have continued to lend a helping hand to Salvadorans. They have given us a privileged position of trust and recognition from various sectors of the country, strategic alliances with financial institutions around the world, and the preference of thousands of workers and micro, small, and medium-sized entrepreneurs in our country.

Currently, SISTEMA FEDECRÉDITO is the financial network with the largest national coverage, confirmed by FEDECRÉDITO, 48 Cajas de Crédito and 7 Bancos de los Trabajadores, SEGUROS FEDECRÉDITO, FEDECRÉDITO Vida, Seguros de Personas  and FEDESERVI, all with a leading role in the economic and social development of El Salvador.
